Teresa was my Acteens Leader at Trinity Baptist Church when I was in high school. She encouraged me to study missions and missionaries and Christian service by doing the Acteen's Studiact Program. She encouraged me to be an active leader in the Acteens program at Trinity. She spent a lot of extra, personal time mentoring me when I was a teenager. She once told me that she didn't pray in public because that sort of praying felt like a canned prayer; she said that sometimes her prayers to God needed to last more than the few minutes that were given to a person who was called upon to pray out-loud in a church service. As a teenager, I couldn't image praying for more than a few minutes silently or out-loud. She supported my Acteen's Christmas in August fund raising idea of hosting a Rock-a-thon, where we girls collected pledges for missions based on how many hours we could stay awake while rocking in a rocking chair. She let me hang out at her house; showed me her amazing sewing room, and the two Oscar fish which she explained carefully stayed on opposite ends of the tank from each other. She gave me many rides to church. She quietly poured the spirt of God into my life when I was a teenage girl. I'm now the Chair of the General Education Department at a Christian college. I think knowing that would have made her happy.
