We remember Teresa Kay Mattia, whose spirit departed from us on July 20th at the age of 64. Ms. Teri, as she was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of everyone she knew. Teri was a beacon of joy and kindness and has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Teri is survived by her children Chelsey Mattia (Richard) Lancaster and Alexander Sebastian Kendall Mattia; grandchildren, William Jeptha, Alice Elizabeth, and Jack Myers Lancaster; mother, Madge Kendall Myers; sister Catherine Myers (Ken) Bostrom; and nephew, Davis Lee Bostrom. Teri was preceded in death by her father, Donald Lee Myers; grandparents, James Richard and Mary Frances Kendall, and Neal and Auda Lee Myers. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. Teri was born in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Industrial Management. Teri was an active member in the First Baptist Church of Scottsboro and also served as the Director of the First Baptist Learning Center. Loving and guiding children was the purpose God placed on her life. Family was everything to Teri and she was a remarkable grandmother who found immense joy in her grandchildren- Jep, Alice and Jack. She treasured every moment spent with them from outdoor adventures to reading bedtime stories. Teri also always had a heart for mission work. Whether it was community needs or foreign missions, she embodied the hands and feet of Christ. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the children she loved so deeply at First Baptist Learning Center. Teri will be remembered by her beautiful smile, heart of grace, words of wisdom, spirit of joy, and a life full of selfless love for others. Although Teri's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. We invite all who cherished Teri to join us in a Celebration of Life service at First Baptist Church of Scottsboro on July 26th where we will share stories and laughter just as Teri would have wished. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the First Baptist Learning Center. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Scottsboro Fellowship Hall on Saturday, July 26th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at noon in the First Baptist Church of Scottsboro Sanctuary with Pastor Shandy Dill officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery following the service. "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Psalm 23:1-6
