Teri Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home on Mar. 4, 2026.
Teresa "Teri" Lynn Smith (Rodenbeck) took her last breath in her battle with cancer on Saturday February 14, 2026, at the age of 58. Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Teri is survived by her husband Shawn Smith; her four sons Kyle Young (wife Aly and son Liam), Adam Young, William Hatfield, and David Hatfield; mother, Sandra Rodenbeck, and sister April Reagan. Teri is preceded in death by her father Theodore Rodenbeck along with grandparents Shirley DeSautels, William Rodenbeck, Martha Virden and Herb Virden.

Teri grew up in Colorado Springs and Woodland Park, Colorado, and graduated from Coronado High School. She stepped into motherhood as a military wife of Bruce Young, stationed in Virginia and Germany. After settling down post-military in Phoenix, she started her long and successful career in commercial property management – a career that would lead to many treasured friendships. Later blessed with the arrival of twin sons, with husband Chris Hatfield, her family journey took her to Seattle. She then met and married her loving husband Shawn Smith, in Enumclaw, Washington, and enjoyed many years of a charmed rural life dotted with dogs and chickens.

Teri became family anywhere she worked, lived or played. Teri was tenaciously caring and reliably steady with her family and in her friendships. She defined "live, laugh, love."

As a mother of four rambunctious, occasionally demanding boys – Teri moved mountains to be sure they knew they had a supportive home where they would be looked after and a Mom who would be there for them always. Often through her own struggles, with an immeasurable integrity, she was a beacon of how community can be light, in dark times. Her affinity for lighthouse imagery was an analogue for her own faith and presence. She frequently was, in her spirit, an example for all as parent, partner, friend and neighbor – and will remain a lighthouse for others, for a long, long time to come.

She faced her cancer battle with grace and determination. The world is a bit dimmer with the loss of Teri but all who knew her are yet brighter because she was here. A faithful Christian, and returning Catholic, spiritual life was always a guiding light. A Funeral Mass and memorial reception will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday March 19, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity supporting cancer research, autism research or the rescue and care of dogs.
