Terrance (Terry) Hughes, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025. Born September 24th 1938 in Benson, Minnesota, and raised in Hastings, Terry lived an unbelievable life marked by kindness, curiosity, and unwavering devotion to family and community. A lifelong educator, Terry taught in the Minneapolis School System and earned degrees from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls and the University of St. Thomas. He was passionate about learning and sharing knowledge, and his impact on students and colleagues alike was profound.
Terry embraced adventure-whether on fishing trips or during winters spent in Tucson-and found his greatest joy in time shared with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His warmth, humor, and gentle spirit made every gathering memorable. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Rita. Terry is survived by his children: Patrick (Linda), Jacqueline (Don), and John (Diane); as well as many grandchildren and great-
grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love and generosity.
A memorial service will be held on November 7th at Saint George Catholic Church in Long Lake, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Homes – www.cassialife.org/giving in honor of Terry's compassionate spirit. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
