Terrence Michael MacKillop, age 70, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at his home in Prescott, MI. He was born on June 10, 1955, in Highland Park, MI.
Terry was born into a large family and grew up in Clawson, MI. He attended college and obtained his degree in criminal justice. Terry retired from Roscommon with more than 25 years’ experience as their Animal Control and Shelter Director. He was named by NACA as Best Animal Control Officer in the United States from 2007-2008. He also served as the president of MAACO (Michigan Association of Animal Control Officers). He loved his many shelter adopted dogs that he and Laura rescued and spoiled them as they deserved.
Terry also was a professional walleye fisherman and entered many tournaments in the Michigan lakes. He loved to hunt but also loved to watch his birds and wildlife from his living room window.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Laura and his daughters, Chevay MacKillop and Cassey MacKillop Campbell, his four grandchildren, three great grandchildren; siblings, Allan MacKillop, Brian (Jackie) MacKillop, Kevin (Lynn) MacKillop, Thad (Cathy) MacKillop, Ted (Rocky) MacKillop, and Theresa (Dave) Hope; and several nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his special dogs, Gunner and Timber.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Finlay and Barbara (Schulte) MacKillop; his brother, Steve (Connie) MacKillop; and his many beloved pets.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date in June 2026.
