Eugenie Smith Obituary
January 5, 1924 - January 13, 2023
Eugenie A. Smith, 1924-2023, passed away peacefully on Jan. 13, 2023. She was 99. Genie was born and raised in Queens, New York by Eugene and Anna Schilling. She attended Columbia University, got married and finished her bachelors degree at Manhattanville College with a concentration in English literature. She followed that with a Masters degree in special education. The following years found her working as a special education teacher. Long a lover of books, she was an avid reader and had an opinion on almost every subject and wasn't afraid to argue it. Genie loved working in the garden and was a member of the Garden club of Greenwich. She was a deacon at the Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed taking her children to Tod's point and Island beach. She had many lifelong friends both from her Columbia years and her many years spent in Greenwich. She is survived by her sons Stephen, Donald, Douglas, a daughter Beverly, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
