Terry Batey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Inc. - Springfield on Jun. 21, 2022.
Terry Batey, 75 of Springfield passed away Friday, June 17, 2022. He was born March 1, 1947 to Ward E. and Jeanne M. (Michels) Batey in Springfield where he grew up and graduated from Glendale High School. He married Ellen Coring and they had two children, Kelli and Ryan.
Terry joined the Air Force and shortly after completing service with that branch, he completed his Masters degree from SMSU. He then went to work for the Missouri National Guard as an airplane mechanic and then a flight engineer for the C23 Shorts Unit.
In 1995, Terry met and married Sherry (Marler-Roberts). Terry's C-23 Unit was deployed during the Iraqi Freedom and after returning stateside in 2004, he retired with over 34 years of service. He was proud of his military career and loved each and every one of his "Band of Brothers".
Terry liked to golf, fish, go to Cardinals games and vacation at the lake. He loved his family and especially loved bragging about all of his grandkids. He was the neighbor that everyone knew, the guy that chased the dream of spotless vehicles, and the perfectly mowed lawn. He was an avid reader, a student of history and never met a stranger. He was well loved and will be terribly missed.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughter, Kelli Lawrence and husband, Brad; son, Ryan; brother, Mike; sister, Pat Amos and husband, Dale; stepson, Shawn Roberts and wife, Kaarie; stepdaughter, Kim Berriman and husband, Greg; nine grandchildren, Ashton, Kollyn, Brooke, Jacob, Kyle, Jackson, Cooper, Parker and Reed.
Visitation and funeral services will be Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 9:00 am with a service at 10:00 am and burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery under the care of Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity of donor's choice or (Terry's preference) take a loved one out for a cheeseburger and enjoy your time together.
