George Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home - Springfield on Feb. 2, 2026.
George Robert Davis, 79, passed away on January 31, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri. Born on January 12, 1947, in Harrison, Arkansas, George lived a life marked by service, dedication, and quiet strength.

After graduating Glendale High School, George answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served honorably for four years and was a Vietnam Veteran-an experience that shaped his enduring sense of duty and compassion for others. Following his military service, George enrolled at Drury University. He was the first among his family to graduate with a bachelor's degree.

George retired from the DAV, where he found his true calling of helping disabled veterans. His work reflected not only his deep respect for fellow service members but also his innate desire to help those around him. Known for being loving, kind, compassionate, and helpful, George made a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.

George found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid sports fan with a particular love of college and pro football. He also enjoyed going to baseball games and was quite fond of watching the Cardinals and Royals. Whether cheering from the stands or watching from home, he relished the camaraderie and excitement of the game. He also enjoyed home DIY projects, reading, and grilling-pastimes that brought him peace and connection with family and friends.

Family was central to George's life. He is survived by his daughter Sarah Carter; granddaughter Alanna "Sweet Pea" Carter; stepdaughter Melissa Thompson; stepson Andrew Penrod; and brother Gary Lamb. His beloved dog Sadie Mae Davis was a constant companion who brought him comfort and joy.

George was preceded in death by his wife Susan (Farley) Davis and granddaughter Reyna.

A Graveside Service will be held on February 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness in his honor.
