Terry Wayne Brown, 81, of Canadian passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, November 3, 2025 at First Christian Church in Canadian with Rev. Matt Cook and Kent Stainback officiating. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Terry was born to Charles E. and Ailsa Brown in Amarillo, Texas on September 2, 1944. Shortly after he was born, his family moved from Dumas, Texas to Canadian, Texas, where they lived for the remainder of his upbringing. After graduating from Canadian High School, he attended Texas Tech University where he received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. In 1967 he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served for two years at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.

Terry met his future wife, Kay Abraham, when they were both students at Canadian High School. They were married July 20, 1968. Their first daughter, Wendi, was born September 14, 1971, and their second daughter, Hilary, was born January 15, 1979.

After his military service, Terry and his family moved to the Dallas area where he worked for Transport Life insurance for 15 years. Then in 1982, they moved back to his hometown of Canadian. Terry and Kay helped run the family ranch for about 10 years, then they bought Ward Oil and renamed it Canadian Oil and Gas and is still owned and operated by the family.

Terry was an active member and elder at First Christian Church in Canadian, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a board member for Interbank Canadian, the Canadian YMCA, and the Citadel Art Museum. Terry was also awarded the Golden Nail award, an Amarillo area award for small businesses, in 2014.

Terry was an avid football fan, both of the Canadian Wildcats and the Texas Tech Red Raiders, but his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He rarely missed any of their events from sports competitions to graduations and weddings, and he always made sure they left his house with a little extra cash. He had a quiet demeanor, a dry sense of humor, and he never wasted his words.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ailsa; and his sister, Carolyn Jo Wilburn.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kay Brown; and his two daughters, Wendi Stephens and her husband Kirk and Hilary Beedy and her husband Blake; his 8 grandchildren, Garrett Stephens and his wife Morgan, Grayson Stephens, Lily Cochran and her husband Reagan, Sophie Stephens, Berkley Beedy, Brooklyn Beedy, Breckyn Beedy, and Beckett Beedy; and one great grandchild, Miller Kay Stephens; and his sister, Sandy Lyons of Canadian.

We will miss Terry dearly, but we are comforted that his suffering has ceased and he is resting in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
