Terry Criffield Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 26, 2026.
Terry Dean Criffield, 66, of Augusta, Arkansas, departed this life on February 19, 2026. He was born in South Haven, Michigan, on January 16, 1960 and was raised in Michigan before spending the last 15 years of his life in Arkansas.

Terry was a long-haul truck driver by trade, dedicating countless miles and years to the open road. He was also a talented mechanic on the side-someone who could fix just about anything he set his hands to. In quieter moments, he found joy in crafting, especially creating Native American peace pipes and dream catchers, honoring traditions that were deeply meaningful to him.

Known for his sharp wit and trademark sarcasm, Terry was outspoken, strong-willed, and unapologetically himself. He loved drag racing, riding motorcycles, shooting pool, and embracing life with a fearless spirit. To many, he was affectionately known as "Chief," a name he carried with pride. As an elder of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, he held his Native American heritage close to his heart and lived it with dignity and honor.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Patsy Mears and John Mears, Sr.; and his father and stepmother, Charles Criffield and Virginia Criffield.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, James Criffield (Kristy Criffield); his daughters, Krystal Mullen (Clay Mullen) and Stephanie Olsten (Bobby Olsten); nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his brothers, John Mears, Jr. (Tina Mears) and Raymond Crisffield (Sharron Crisffield); his brother-in-law, Kenny Mears; and his sisters, Michelle Binney (Mike Binney), Sally Drowns (David Drowns), Carlene Shepherd (Glen Shepherd), and Cathy Wilson (Chris Wilson). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and dear friends. And of course, his beloved black-and-white, four-legged, overly spoiled best friend, Ms. Panda.

Terry will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A celebration of his life will be held this coming summer in Michigan, where his ashes will be spread in a place filled with cherished memories from his youth, honoring his final wishes. Details for that service will be shared when available.

A small gathering will also be held at Lisa's G's in Elgin on Sunday, March 1, at 12:15 p.m., for family and friends to come together, share stories, and remember a life lived boldly and fully. The gathering will be potluck style, and guests are invited to bring a favorite dish to share in Terry's honor. Please note that the venue is 21 and over.
