Terry Elkins

Terry Elkins, age 68, of the Bakers Creek community, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 25th, 2025. He was a son of the late Talmadge Greenlee and Cora Pearl Fox Elkins. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Ernest Elkins and Roger Elkins; and two sisters: Vonda Owensby and Mary Thomas.
Terry was a dedicated, hardworking man whose steady hands and generous heart touched countless lives. For many years he worked as a butcher and took great pride in processing meats and serving the public with skill, honesty and a friendly smile. He attended Bakers Creek Baptist Church, where his faith was an important part of his life. Above all he loved his family, especially his precious grandchildren. Watching them grow, cheering them on at their ballgames and being part of their lives brought him tremendous joy.
Terry was also a lifelong and enthusiastic Tar Heel fan. He was a gifted craftsman and he had a natural talent for woodworking. Whether building, remodeling or creating something entirely new; his steady hands and creative mind made each project special. He was a true hobbyist who enjoyed crafting and building with Legos, anything that kept his mind active and his spirit inspired.
Left to cherish the memory of Terry is his daughter, Brittney Nicole Byrd and husband Charles of Burnsville, NC; a sister, Regena Hensley also of Burnsville, NC; grandchildren: Aayden, Makynlee, Addilyn, Easton, Coleson and Rylie; several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Eddie McClure will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinson Cemetery off of Bakers Creek. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
