James Terry Jarrett, 79, went to be with the Lord January 3, 2026, arriving just in time for supper. He was preceded in death by his father, James "Jimmy" Davis Jarrett, his mother, Annie Ruth Jarrett, and his brother, Phillip Allen Jarrett.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rebecca "Becky" Marsh Jarrett; his older daughter Vicki Worth (Terence) of Freeport, Florida and his step-granddaughter, Laikyn Worth; younger daughter Lesley Wolfe (Travis) of
Tuscaloosa, Alabama and grandsons Graham Jarrett Wolfe and Evan Paul Wolfe.
Terry was born in the post-War baby boom in
Gadsden, Alabama. His first friends were his many cousins, and he spent his life reminiscing about those days. He graduated from Gadsden High School in 1965, and he was part of what he considered the greatest football team ever assembled.
After junior college, he joined the Army. Upon completion, he attended The University of Alabama and was a spring walk-on for the football team under the legendary Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. During his time at the University, he went on a blind date with Becky Marsh, forever changing his life, and while recovering from a football-ending car crash, he proposed to her. He adored her to his last breath.
The couple were members of Emmanuel Baptist Church for almost 40 years where he enjoyed Sunday school conversations and potluck fellowships (as long as it wasn't a casserole). They are grateful for all the care and concern shown to them these past few years by those they hold dear.
Terry proudly worked at Alabama Power Company for 35 years as a lineman. His body worked hard to keep the lights on. His friendships lasted through retirement, and he could not wait for the second Tuesday of the month when the retired lineman gathered for breakfast to share memories.
Terry had many passions, and if he ever cornered you on a couch, you received an in-depth lesson. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of Alabama football, classic movies, battles and guns. To the end, his detailed knowledge of antique guns never faded. He would have loved to have gone shooting one more time.
Terry was a passionate man and what he loved, he gave himself to with great abandon. He ardently loved his family and was every bit a "girl dad," even before that was a thing. He loved whatever Vicki and Lesley did, supporting (and critiquing) every minute of sports and activities they were involved in.
However, deep down, he had an ache for a boy, and when his grandsons were born, he went "grandad mode." He could no longer wear button-downs for fear his pride would explode the buttons straight off his shirt. His favorite activity was taking them to breakfast and seeing how much they could eat.
Terry always had one more thing he wanted to do. That will to live got him through the last year of his life. To his final moment on earth, he was thankful for the family and the friends and the day that the Lord had made for him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel, with services to follow at 2 p.m. Honorary pall bearers will be all those friends who shared his interests throughout his life.
