Madrid: Terry J. LaMora, age 61, passed away at Claxton-Hepburn Hospital surrounded by his loving family, peacefully, on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Callings hours for Terry will be held at the Phillips Memorial Home in
Madrid, NY, located at 20 Church Street on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
There will be no funeral services or burial at this time.
Terry was born to the late George and Gloria (Shaffner) LaMora on November 3, 1963, in
Massena, NY. Terry attended schools in Madrid and worked many various jobs.
Terry married Carol Anne Tracey, April 14, 1990, Madrid, at the Methodist Church in Madrid. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Terry is survived by his loving companion Debra Benware of
Madrid, NY and his caring son Jonathan J. LaMora of Madrid. Terry is also survived by his granddaughter Lacey LaMora of
Madrid, NY. He is also survived by Debra's children; Nathaniel and wife Mindy Benware, Christina and husband Richard, Frederick along with their grandchildren whom he loved as his own; Isaac, Caleb, Brianna Benware and Adam and Eric Frederick.
Terry also leaves behind his memory to be cherished by his twin brother, William "Bill" and Theresa LaMora of Hillsboro, OR, sisters; Jacqueline LaMora and companion James LaPoint of Norwood, NY, Gloria Barkley of Norwood, NY, brothers; Michael "Mike" LaMora of Canton, NY, Patrick and wife Sherry LaMora of Ogdensburg, NY, and David and Sharley LaMora of Beaverton, OR.
Terry is also survived a very near and dear niece, Stacy Barkley of Norwood, NY, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Terry was predeceased by his brothers, George and Gerald LaMora along with a brother in-law Kevin Barkley, nephews Patrick CJ Petrie, Keith J. LaMora and a niece Kathrina Harrison.
Terry worked in several restaurants in the area, with some of them being. Mama Lucias in Potsdam, the Potsdam Elks Lodge Post No. 2074, and the Best Western in Canton, NY where Terry loved to create in the kitchens he entered, with his abilities to bring into existence meaningful meals and dishes that could be shared and remembered. He also worked for Spencer Thew in South Colton, NY, training and taking care of sled dogs that were used in the Alaskan Iditarod. Terry even placed first in a couple of local races. And that work ethic continued into his pastime, where he would meddle with his true labor of love as the ground's keeper at Madrid Golf Course, putting the final cut on many of the greens. He was able to share with the others that could enjoy during the peaceful echoes of the summer months, beneath the clear blue sky.
Terry enjoyed spending time on the St. Lawrence River fishing and playing golf. He also enjoyed listening to various types of music with his favorite band being, Pink Floyd.
