Gladys Arno

MASSENA – Gladys C. Arno, 81, passed away Wednesday evening, March 18, 2026 at Cleveland Clinic South in Stuart, Florida.

Gladys was born May 9, 1944 in Brushton, the daughter of the late Merchant and Elizabeth (Snyder) Oakes. She was a graduate of Brushton-Moira Central School. On September 20, 1969, she married Wayne E. Arno at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brushton.

Gladys first worked at dress factory in Malone before becoming a private duty home health aide and cleaning lady. Gladys loved visiting Disneyworld, playing miniature golf, and was a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader when her daughter was younger.

Gladys is survived by her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Sheri Arno of Massena; her sisters, Rita Braun, Theresa Krais, Valda Ours, and Florence Sacco; her brother, Martin Oakes; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Thomas, and Melvin Oakes; and her sister, Frances Oakes.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where services will be held privately later in the spring with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
