Terry Eugene Lingerfelt

1946 - 2026

Mr. Terry Eugene Lingerfelt, age 79, of Rome, GA, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Lingerfelt was born in Chattanooga, TN on November 26, 1946, son of the late Thomas Eugene Lingerfelt and the late Sarah Evenlyn Howell Lingerfelt. He was a graduate of Berry College, which he loved and supported his entire life. Mr. Lingerfelt began his working career teaching and coaching at East Rome High School. He coached football, boys and girls basketball, and track while at East Rome High School, which he continued in later years supporting other schools in Rome. He held this role until he felt his calling into the insurance industry, owning and operating Terry Lingerfelt State Farm Agency for over 38 years. Mr. Lingerfelt's long and illustrious career in insurance provided him the ability to serve and help countless people provide protection for themselves and their families. He was devoted to his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with them at the beach, cooking on the grill in his backyard while watching the grandchildren swim in the pool. He was a great friend who would laugh, cry, and support them no matter the day or time. He was a longstanding member of the Lindale Lodge #455 F & AM and a former member of the Exchange Club of Rome.

Survivors include his loving wife, Charlene Head Lingerfelt, Rome, to whom he was married on June 24, 1966; 3 children, Cheri Edwards (Brian), Wendy Rooker (Gil), and Tommy Lingerfelt (Sara); 6 grandchildren, Ashley Dempsey (Pierce), Davis Edwards, Jewell Rooker, Ben Rooker, Grey Lingerfelt, and Brooks Lingerfelt; 3 great grandchildren, Anderson, Samuel, and Frances Dempsey; 2 siblings, Theresa Stewart and Steve Lingerfelt (Rhonda); numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at North Broad Baptist Church, Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Memory Garden.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until service time at North Broad Baptist Church.

Pallbearers: Davis Edwards, Ben Rooker, Grey Lingerfelt, Brooks Lingerfelt, Brian Edwards, and Gil Rooker. Honorary pallbearers: Steve Lingerfelt, Ricky Causey, Rivers Roser, Charlie Burdette, and Loyd Sanchez.
