Terry Reynolds Loder, 84, from Ivins, Utah passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2025 surrounded by family. Terry was a beloved member of his neighborhood and ward communities, known for his quiet kindness, willingness to serve, dedication, unwavering testimony, and patriotic spirit. He loved the many friends he made throughout his life, and would want them to know of the great impact they had on him.
Terry was born October 3rd, 1940 in Salt Lake City. He was raised in Bountiful and Centerville, Utah. After graduating from Bountiful High School, he attended the University of Utah. He took a two year break in order to serve a mission in Australia for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which was a defining experience in developing his unwavering testimony of the Savior's gospel. He graduated college before leaving to serve his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force. After pilot training he married Judith Campbell, in 1967, with whom he had his four children. In the Air Force, he had various assignments around the world; flying KC-135 refueling jets during the Vietnam War, and later in Air Rescue and Recovery units flying UH-1N "Huey" and CH-3 "Jolly Green" helicopters. Terry had an enduring love for his country and the freedoms it stands for. After his military service, he had a fulfilling career for many years as an entrepreneur and business owner of a flooring company in Oregon and Utah.
In 2001, Terry married Carolynne Lund and was endlessly devoted to her for the rest of his life. He looked forward to being with her throughout eternity. While Carolynne happened to be the daughter of Terry's Mission President in Australia, they didn't meet until much later in life. Their marriage was sealed in the Nauvoo Temple and their love and partnership were a cornerstone of his life. In addition to serving in various callings over the years, he and Carolynne served a year long service mission for The Church in the Salt Lake City area.
Terry had a great love for creating. Whether it was designing and building homes, waterfalls, a gate, woodworking, tending a garden, writing a Christmas poem, cooking great homemade meals for his family, or even authoring a country music song, his creations brought him immense joy. However, his greatest creation and joy was his family, and his knowledge that through the gospel of Jesus Christ, it will endure beyond this life. He wanted nothing more than for his kids and grandkids to be on the Savior's path that leads to lasting joy. He had a deep testimony of the power of the atonement of our Savior to be active in our lives to help overcome any failure, and to help us become disciples of Christ through the refining process of repentance and serving others with a sincere heart.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carolynne, parents William and Jewel Loder and brother Larry (Norma). He is survived by his four children and their spouses Kristen (Sidney), Stephen (Bethany), Jason (Tricia), and JuleeAnn (Danny), and 14 grandchildren, who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his brother Tom (Dalene), sister DeeAnn (Jim), and sister Sandy (Craig).
Terry's legacy of compassion, dedication, and service will continue to inspire those who knew him. His memory will be cherished by his family and friends.
Terry will be interred on Monday, February 3rd at the Utah Veterans Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah. A viewing at the cemetery chapel will be held at 11am, followed by a graveside memorial with military honors at 12pm and luncheon at the Camp Williams Officer's Club afterward.
Rest in peace, Dad. You were a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of your family and friends.
