Terry Mason Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sellars Funeral Home - Lebanon on Mar. 16, 2026.
Terry Lynn Mason, age 65, of 3241 Cairo Bend Road, Lebanon, TN, went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2026. He died peacefully at his home. He is preceded in death by his father, William "Hooper" (Buck) Mason, his mother, Molly Evelyn Mason, and his stepdaughter Patti Dampier. He is survived by his wife Deborah Mason, his brother Jerry Mason, his sister Debbie (Mark) Williams, his son Tyler (Traci) Mason, his daughters Haley (Darin) Hill and Patience Mason, and his stepdaughter Melissa (Terry) Johnson. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Colton Mason, Christine (Dew) Dampier, Katie Mason, Avery and Riley Hill as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Terry was born, raised, and lived his entire life in Lebanon, TN. He graduated from Lebanon High School where he proudly lettered in football. He married Deborah Hall on April 14, 2001. They would have celebrated their silver anniversary next month. Terry retired after more than 30 years of service to the State of Tennessee in the Department of Corrections where he worked as a correctional officer.

Terry enjoyed working on anything mechanical (especially motorcycles) and shared this hobby with his son Tyler. He was known to take care of the maintenance needs of all of the vehicles in the family. He had a true passion for football, especially for his beloved "Big Orange" Tennessee Volunteers. In fact, he was so devoted to the Vols that he often joked that he would never drive any vehicle that was red or crimson like the colors of that team to the south! His love for football led him to help coach the sport when his children were young and even to write and publish a children's book about football called "Game Plan."

Terry loved good food, especially anything spicy. He claimed there was nothing too "hot" for him to eat. Deborah finally had heard enough and accepted the "spicy dish" challenge. She won out when she prepared a dish so "picante" that neither Terry nor Tyler could manage to finish it. For Terry, mealtimes were also an occasion to spend time with his family and friends. Any reason was a good reason to eat together, share stories, and just enjoy being with each other.

The family plans to have private get together at a later date. Because Terry had a true heart for children, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis. Donations allow St. Jude's to provide care for extremely ill children at no charge to their families.
