It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Terry Leland Pruett, age 70 on May 2, 2022. Forever patriotic, being a Vietnam veteran and serving his country in the United States Army and in the Army National Guard. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 years. After retirement, he and Lucille Capps Pruett, his wife (also the love of his life and best friend) moved to Big Rock, Tennessee.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 5-8 at Dyersburg Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home conducted by Bro Dale Morgan. Cremation services are under the direction of Dyersburg Funeral Home.
Terry is survived by his wife, Lucille Capps Pruett, his mother Wilma Sue Pruett of Dyersburg, his brother Barry L. Pruett (Rochelle) of Dyersburg, his sister, Carolyn A. Salyards (Joe) of Humboldt and his children, Terri Renee Bassham (Matt) of Lexington, Tennessee; Leigh Anna Veal (Justin) of Dyersburg, Tennessee; Joshua Leland Pruett (Rose) of Savannah, Tennessee, Holly Rudd Byrd of Dover, Tennessee, and his stepson, Greg Rudd (Melissa) of Newbern, Tennessee. Terry was Papa T to his 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Christian, Jordan, Hannah, Zach, Makayleigh Pepper Jonathan, Graci, Catalina, Ashton, Aden, Daisy, Tori, Maddie, Brandon, Briclyn, Paysleigh and Sadie.
Terry is proceeded in death by his father, James Leon Pruett of Dyersburg, his stepson Kenneth Rudd of Dyersburg and his granddaughter, Annaleigh Renee Escobar.
Terry graduated in 1970 from Dyersburg High School where he worked hard to ensure he was always able to play whatever sport was in season, but he especially loved football (#13). Years after DHS, he often signed his cards TP13 .
Terry loved the outdoors. Living near Land Between the Lakes had been a longtime dream that he and Lucille shared. Anyone who knew him, knew he loved to hunt and enjoyed almost anything outdoors. He had lots of hunting stories that he never tired of retelling. Terry especially enjoyed the opportunities to hunt with his children and grandchildren.
To his friends, Terry was fun to be around. To his family, he was larger than life! He loved to tell stories, and he loved to laugh. Mostly, he loved to make others laugh, especially all the kids!
Terry Pruett, you will always be remembered and forever loved!
