Terry Neil Reed, aged 72, passed away on September 27, 2024, in Austin. Born on December 8, 1951, to Minnie and Doyle Reed, Terry lived a life marked by dedication to his family, country, and community.

Terry dedicated his life to service, both as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and later as a VA Mental Health Counselor, where he provided support to over 200 veterans, providing them with the care and guidance they needed. His commitment to his fellow servicemen and women reflected his deep-rooted values and his Marine Corps ethos.

Terry was a man of many talents. In addition to his professional and military endeavors, he loved woodworking. This hobby allowed him to create lasting memories and artifacts for his loved ones and friends.

Terry was a graduate of Longview High School in Longview where he played for the Longview High Lobo’s where he was All District as a pitcher and set the Strikeout Record of 19 strikeouts in a 7 inning game. He played baseball at Panola Jr. College and East Texas Baptist College. He furthered his education by earning an Associates Degree in Psychology. His educational background and life experiences equipped him well to make a significant impact in the lives of many. His commitment to service was evident early in his life and continued throughout his career.

Family was central to Terry's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Reed; his children, Timothy Reed of Austin, Katrina Reed of Grand Junction, CO, April Moore-Vineyard and her husband Corey of Harleton and Theresa Reed of Texas, Kim Kitts and her husband Ryan of Bryan College Station, Jeannie Smith and her husband Jason of New Braunfels, Brandi Skipwith and her husband Shane of Willis; his brothers, Elmer Reed and his wife Beverly of Weatherford, David Reed and his wife Marsha of Matagorda; sister, Becky Foster and her late husband Dan of Longview. Terry was a proud grandfather to Serena, Rowan, Levi, Alexa, Katelyn, Oscar, Joseph, Jacob, Joshua, Ryleigh, Paisleigh, Judah, Balie, Hunter, Waylon, Riley, Jody, Madison, McKenna, Sophie, Steven, and great-grandfather to Raelynn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Doyle Reed.

Family and Friend will gather to Celebrate Terry's at Elgin Funeral Home, Saturday, October 26th at 10:00 AM.

Terry Neil Reed's legacy of service, both in the military and in his community, as well as his devotion to his family and friends, will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

In the last analysis, what the Marine Corps becomes is what we make of it during our respective watches. And that watch of each Marine is not confined to the time he spends on active duty. It last as long as he is “proud to bear the title of United States Marine.” ~ Gen Louis H. Wilson, 26th CMC
