Terry Wayne Tiemann was born on February 21, 1952 in the Houston Heights to Clarence Charles Tiemann and Frances Melde Tiemann. After a long battle with Glioblastoma, he passed away to his heavenly home in the evening of October 6, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Cathy Rankin Tiemann and brother-in-law Andre Delacroix. He is survived by his brother James Tiemann and his sister Sandra Tiemann Delacroix. Also surviving him are three nephews: James Jr, Matthew Scott and Christian; two nieces Sarah and Sophie, plus great nephew Jack.
Terry was baptized into faith in Christ at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Houston. Through confirmation, he reaffirmed his faith in his Savior, also at Bethlehem. He attended Bethlehem Lutheran School, Hamilton Junior High and graduated from John H Reagan High School, class of 1970.
Terry joined the workforce at the young age of 16 and took pride in being an excellent employee always. First job was after school and weekends, hand-candling eggs for Artz Brothers Egg Company. His career then led him to Harrison Equipment Company where he worked in the Onan Generator sales & customer service department in Houston. For many years, he was employed by Western Geophysical in Houston. He loved that fast pace of purchasing all kinds of supplies to support their offshore seismic vessels.
While living in Houston, Terry very much enjoyed working in his yard, always striving for the perfect green lawn. That level of landscaping skill would change when he retired and decided to live in beautiful Washington County on the family farm. Almost immediately, he purchased a tractor and set to work on the land, enriching the grasses, clearing away trees and vines that did not belong, repairing erosion; you name it, he did it. Along the way, he learned multiple times that poison ivy was not his friend!
He had great love and respect for all the animals living on his land; with feral hogs being that one exception! He loved watching and counting the deer, even naming his favorites. He was a member of Washington County Wildlife Society, learning to build food plots for the various animals. The recent sightings of wild turkey on his land gave him such pride. He built bluebird houses and posted them all around the property; if you were lucky, he gifted you with one or two. Earlier just this year, he began building wood duck boxes & installing them on the pond. Immediately, there were duck pairs nesting in them. What a huge smile he had while watching the videos of those tiny ducks leaving their nest box! One could say that Terry was indeed busy in retirement always!
Terry did have the love of the beach and water in him; lots of surfing, fishing, kayaking - trips to the Galveston jetties, Rockport & Port Isabel. Waterskiing on Lake Travis and camping at Pedernales State Park were two favorite pastimes. His love for Lake Buchanan began at a very early age with so many family vacations there and that love continued his entire life. Deer hunting was another favorite pastime, having been a member on leases in East Texas, the Hill Country and South Texas. Pets were always a part of Terry's life; he loved them like family, especially his English Cockers: Happy, Earl, Abby & Bear.
Above all, Terry was just an all-around nice guy; much like his dad, he was one who "never seemed to know a stranger".
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St Paul Lutheran Church - Rehburg 4450 FM 1948 Burton 77835. There will be visitation with the family @ 10:30am; service following immediately. Honorary pallbearers are Terry's close friends, his Westerngeco coworkers and his hunting buddies.
Terry's wish was to be cremated with his ashes returning to those places he loved in Texas and his Burton farm.
Special thanks to the staff of Hospice Brazos Valley; and to the amazing staff of Silversage Assisted Living in Brenham for the love and care shown Terry & family over the past year.
