Thaddeus Paul Kochanski

Ted Kochanski, aged 73, passed away suddenly on August 22, 2025. His family and many friends are shocked and saddened by his loss.

Born January 9, 1952, in West Hartford, Connecticut, to the late Stan and Millie Kochanski, Ted excelled at school and loved science. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping and mountain climbing.

Ted graduated from MIT with a Bachelor of Sciences in Physics in 1974 and obtained his PhD from the University of Texas in 1981. He then moved back to the Boston area and worked for Lincoln Laboratory until the mid-1980s when he started consulting in technology businesses. Founder of Sensors Signals Systems and long associated with the University of New Hampshire and Wentworth Institute of Technology, he combined technical mastery with a deep humanistic spirit. Ted was also a generous friend and mentor, known for his endless curiosity and capacity to inspire.

Ted was a long-time resident of Lexington and active in the community. He volunteered at the Boston Museum of Science every Saturday for the past 35 years and particularly liked teaching kids. He enjoyed singing as a member of the choir at First Baptist Church Lexington for the last 15 years. He also enjoyed his Wednesday morning men's group to discuss a range of topics and solve the world's problems. He was a long-time member of IEEE, serving on the board for several years. He was a member of the Copernicus Society and a past member of the Concord Minutemen. An active MIT alum, he was delighted to attend his 50th Reunion at MIT in 2024 and wear the coveted red jacket.

Ted was proud of his Polish heritage and traveled to Poland several times. He enjoyed a good borsht and sauerkraut.

Ted is survived by his wife of 46 years, Chris Kochanski, step-daughter Kim Shraibati, brothers Greg and Rex Kochanski and West Highland Terrier Harry.

A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1580 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington, Mass on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 1:30 in the afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Boston Museum of Science.
