Thelma Jane Kitts

Thelma Jane Kitts, 74, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully at Baptist Hospital on September 8, 2025, following a brief illness.

Thelma (Ther, Thammer, or T as her friends and loved ones called her) was born on February 15, 1951, to Macy and Oscar Kitts and grew up in Brentwood Park. She graduated from Pensacola Technical High School in 1969 and remained in Pensacola where she worked in several restaurants until she retired.

Thelma was known for her fierce independence, passion for purple, large pin collection, beach strolls, luck with the scratch-offs and going out for her daily drives. She also cherished her time with loved ones including her two cats, Rocky and May May, and always expressed her love through kindness and acts of service. Making lasagna and cakes were her specialty.

Thelma shared a loving partnership with Jacob T. (Jake) Simmons for 30 years until his passing in 2005. She is also preceded in death by, her parents; and brothers, Bill Kitts and Bobby Kitts; as well as a host of other beloved family members.

Thelma is survived by her sisters, Virginia Hall and Hazel (Gary) Saladino; niece and nephew, Keyli Whelan (Adam Stewart) and Kris (Robyn) Saladino; as well as great nieces and nephews and their significant others, Savannah Whelan (Tyler Hyma), Morgan Saladino (Damien Prutsman), Ashlyn Whelan (Will Gonzales), Bryson Whelan (Jenn Maher), Haley Saladino (TJ Haynes), Kolby Saladino and Kelsey Saladino.

A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Trahan Funeral Home in Pensacola. The visitation will begin at 11:00 am with the service following at 12:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to attend, wear purple and share memories.

The family wishes to thank all those who have offered their support during this difficult time. Thammer will forever be in our hearts.
