Thelma (Oma) Laviolette was born January 15, 1945 in Earle, Arkansas to George and Ora Lee Pettit. She was the second of fifteen children. On Wednesday, March 29th 2023, at the age of 78, Thelma found a resting place with her heavenly father.
Her primary education was at Dunjee elementary school where she also graduated with the Dunjee High School Class of 1962. Thelma was raised in a Christian home. She was baptized at an early age and has been a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Thelma had a strong work ethic and held many jobs while also raising her three daughters as a single mother. Additionally, Thelma played the role of a second mother to many of her younger siblings. People tended to gravitate towards Thelma's kind and giving spirit. Because of her warmth and generosity, Thelma's home tended to be the family gathering place.
Thelma was a loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. The simplest pleasures in life brought joy to her. She loved to listen to music, read, draw, and watch her grandchildren grow up.
Thelma leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters Jacqueline Goode, Gayla Sylvain (Reggie) and Shanta Laviolette; her sisters Patricia Christopher, Linda Pettit, Carolyn Rhone, and Georgianna Rhone; her brothers Maurice Pettit, Kenneth Pettit; her grandchildren Justin Goode, Jamai Banks, Jeremy Goode, Ariel Laviolette, Aisha Sylvain, Jasmin Sylvain, Amari Laviolette, nine great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother George and Ora Lee Pettit-Ivery; her siblings Charlesetta Mitchell, Vester Pettit, Johnnie Hardiman, Varvel (Bobbie) Pettit, Dora Pettit, Zell Anderson, Otis Pettit, and Clarence Pettit.
