Thelma E Marshall (1929-2024)
Thelma was born to her parents, John and Thelma Masklee, on December 23. 1929. Born and raised in Paterson, NJ. Thelma met her beloved husband Harold while working in a factory near his home in Hawthorne, NJ. Her quick wit and good looks won him over by flirting through the factory window. They flirted and dated for many months/years before joining in wedded bliss on October 23rd, 1948. They lived in Oakland, NJ where they raised their two daughters.
Thelma worked as a crossing guard right outside of their home while their girls grew up. Utilizing her gift of a servant's heart, Thelma then became a Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) and worked at Van Dyk Manor in Ridgewood, NJ for 20 years before retiring. Her caring kind heart and compassionate nature was seen repeatedly in her desire to help others.
Anyone who knew Thelma, would tell you her main joy in life was her family and friends. With her generosity and giving spirit, Thelma, took it upon herself to make sure everyone had what they needed. Whether it be clothes on their back, food in their bellies (especially her cakes and cookies) or just an ear to listen with a shoulder to lean on. Thelma was a member of the Ponds Reformed Church in Oakland. Her walk-in faith was an inspiration to all those around her. Her Church family was very special to her with which she considered lifelong friends and chosen family.
Thelma resided in Oakland for most of her life, spending her summers on Lake Hopatcong. After selling her home in Oakland, she lived in Butler, NJ for several years before moving to Christian Health in Wyckoff, NJ as her final residence. Thelma went home to be with her Lord and Savoir on April 26th, 2024 at the age of 94.
Thelma was pre-deceased by her Parents, John and Thelma Masklee and her Husband Harold Marshall. She is survived by her daughters Jackie Voitle (husband Bill) and Karen Rasa (husband Paul). Her 4 grandchildren Chris Voitle (wife Sharon), Tricia Rodenroth (husband Dean), Kevin Voitle (wife Kira Lynn) and Brad Rasa (wife Melanie). And her 6 great grandchildren; Tyler Voitle, Mickey Voitle, Maci Fitzpatrick, Chase Voitle, Everly Rasa and Ensley Rasa.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, at 11:30am. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ponds Reformed Church in Oakland or to the Christian Healthcare Center in Wyckoff.
