Charlotte A. Soder

Soder, Charlotte A. (nee Van Dale), age 91, of Hawthorne, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Born in Paterson, Charlotte resided in Totowa and Wayne before moving to Hawthorne where she had lived for most of her life. A dedicated homemaker, Charlotte had enjoyed working as a typesetter for the Hawthorne Press and as an attendant at the Hawthorne Theater. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, and was also an avid book reader.

Charlotte was the beloved wife of the late Alfred J. Soder, Jr. (2022). Loving mother of Richard Soder and his wife Lynn of Bloomingdale, Alfred W. Soder of Lafayette, CO, James Soder and his wife Dianna of Hawthorne, and William Soder and his wife Sharon of North Haledon. Grandmother of Samantha Soder, Heather Webber and her husband Troy, Nicole Maloney and her husband Scott, Candace McCann and her husband William, James Soder, Jr. and his wife Loreen, Emily Soder, Ian Soder, Matthew Soder, and Zachary Soder. Great grandmother of Raven, Sadie, Jeffrey James, and Dylan. She is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Jacob Van Dale.

Friends may visit with the family at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00pm. Interment will take place privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hawthorne Ambulance Corps or to the Hawthorne Fire Department.
