Theodore "Tom" Groce, 88, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025. He was born in Brownstown, Indiana, on December 6, 1936, to the late Theodore "Ted" Shores and Virginia "Lucille" (England) Groce. He married Mary Lou Findley on January 20, 1968, and she survives.
After proudly serving his country in the US Air Force until 1964, Tom was employed at H.O. Canfield, and then spent many years at Cummins, where he worked until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed speaking about his time in the Air Force and time spent in Greenland and the southeast U.S. He always thought sleeping was a huge waste of time and he let his children know it. He was a firm believer in going to work early so that there was time for coffee and socializing before the workday began. Tom enjoyed snow skiing until his body no longer allowed it, and he enjoyed traveling with Mary to many destinations. He had a passion for collecting antiques and tending his flower gardens. Tom was member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Taking care of and loving his family was always a top priority.
Left behind to cherish Tom's memory are his beloved wife, Mary Lou (Findley) Groce; his children, Christa (Kevin) Morgan and Libby (Darren) Kimmel; grandchildren, Vincent (Rebecca) Leslie, Cole Kimmel, and Katelyn (Nate) Bauermeister; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Charlotte, and Chloe Bauermeister; brother-in-law, Lee Wessel; sister, Sandra Knott; brother, Joseph Groce; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A special thank you to Lauren and Buffie for the friendship, joy and assistance they provided Tom.
He is preceded in death by his parents, listed above; sister, Mary Lou Wessel, who was always very special to him; and best friends, Mike Davis and Henry Ford.
Funeral services for Tom will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Voss and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. Deacon John Cord will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on the evening of Wednesday, August 13, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Tom will be laid to rest immediately following at Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Tom's honor be made out to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or to the Community Foundation of Jackson County for Jackson County Dog Shelter.
