Theodore G. Loftis, Sr., age 72 of Hendersonville, passed away November 5, 2023 surrounded by his family. Teddy was born on August 3, 1951 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Herman and Bettye Loftis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Wayne Loftis, Cynthia Diane Loftis, Jimmy Loftis, and Stephanie Loftis; and niece, Tara Conatser.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Loftis; children, Cindy Loftis Allen (Matt), Christy Loftis, Theodore G. Loftis, Jr. (Hope), Ashley Loftis Nolan (Shane), Ashley Carter, Matthew Carter, and Jamie Buchanan; grandchildren, Henry Allen, Ruby Allen, Jessica McMurry, Morgan Loftis, Grace Johnson, Maddie Johnson, Garrett Loftis, Harper Nolan, Ethan Nolan, and Liam Nolan; sisters, Tammy Creasy and Neina Loftis; nieces, Nickie Creasy and Elise Matthews; nephew, Joseph Conatser; and a host of friends.
Teddy was a 1972 graduate of Hendersonville High School, he obtained his Emergency Medical Technician license from Volunteer State Community College in 1975, and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1980. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed guns, being outdoors, and could build or fix almost anything. Teddy loved to help people and would give you the shirt off his back; he was known for his outgoing personality and never met a stranger.
Teddy was a very proud law enforcement officer and was proud of the career path he had chosen, a career that spanned over five decades. As a 51-year officer, he was employed at the Goodlettsville Police Department, Hendersonville Police Department, Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, Millersville Police Department, Ethridge Police Department, and finished his career as Chief of the Lynnville Police Department where he was still currently employed. He was a proponent of training and learning all you could know about law enforcement, he had numerous certifications, attended numerous classes, and trained hundreds of law enforcement officers. He was a proud graduate of the FBI National Academy Session #198 in 1999; Teddy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, FBINA Associates, National Rifle Association and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Officer’s Association. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org.
A Celebration of Teddy’s Life will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 10, 2023 at Long Hollow Church in Hendersonville. Interment will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens with Teddy Loftis, Jr., Shane Nolan, Matt Allen, Henry Allen, Daniel O’Saile, Matthew Carter, Richard Warren, and Randy Nash, Sr. serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Officer’s Association, members of the FBINA Associates, B.J. Riley, Sammy Riley, and Randy Nash, Jr.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside and again on Friday from 10:00 A.M until time of service at the church.
