Theodore "Ted" E. Ritter, Sr., age 92, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 1, 1933, Ted led a life marked by love, joyful gatherings, and service.
Ted was a devoted husband of 50 years to his beloved wife, Verna. Having a deep affection for one another, they were rarely apart. He found his greatest joy gathering with family and friends, especially at his home on the Back River. The view was stunning, but the company was always better. He loved traveling with Verna, taking time to visit family and friends all over the country. Ted delighted in being outdoors, especially during the warmer months. Whether he was on his boat, hunting, riding all-terrain vehicles with his buddies, cooking out with family and friends, or mowing the lawn, he was in his glory whenever he was outside.
Ted was proud to have served his country as a Marine and was a true American at heart. He continued honoring this passion by volunteering with the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary for over 20 years earning the rank of Lieutenant. Ted also volunteered for the Natural Resources Police Reserve for approximately 20 years. He took immense pride in his service to both forces and built strong friendships along the way.
Remembered for his unconditional love and warmth, Ted's legacy will continue to be celebrated by all who knew him. He was the embodiment of a loving spirit, making every place he went brighter and every person he met feel cherished. Ted Ritter Sr.'s memory will forever be a beacon of love and family unity.
Ted and Verna's marriage entwined two families whom they loved dearly. That love extended to their children, Theodore "Ted" Ritter, Jr. and his wife Lorelei, Nancy Ollerhead, Lisa Davis and her husband Ken, and they fondly remembered his late son, Danny Ritter. As a grandfather, more affectionately known as "Poppyseed," Ted embraced every moment with his grandchildren: Zachary and his wife Nicole, Samantha and her fiancé Nathan, Megan Blazer, Abigail Ollerhead, Emma and her husband Adam, Ryan and his wife Kelsey, Julia and her boyfriend Chris, Cody and his girlfriend Layla, and his niece Julie Kaczor and her husband George. He was also loved by his great grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may honor and celebrate Ted's life at the family-owned Evans Life Celebration Home – 8800 Harford Road, Parkville, MD 21234, for a Receiving of Friends on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, from 12-2PM. A Memorial Mass will follow the gathering in St. Ursula's Catholic Church at 2:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation.

Uncle Ted, I have so many memories of my mom and her "twin" spending time together. You are Mom's favorite person and she was surely awaiting your arrival. Your spirit and compassion will be missed. I love you

Uncle Ted and Aunt Verna are some of the most loving people I know. Uncle Ted always told me if I needed a place to go, I could always come to him. Showed me where he hides the key and always welcomed me and my family with open arms. You will be very missed! I love you!
