Theodore “Ted” Skillman, 95, of Carthage, passed away December 13th, 2023. He was born in Beech Grove September 28th, 1928, to parents Robert and Alverta (Mack) Skillman.
Ted proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On October 1st, 1950, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Murphy. They shared 73 wonderful years together.
Ted worked as a stereotype and engraver for the Indianapolis Star for many years before retiring in 1992.
He was a valued member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage.
Ted was a kind, loving gentleman. He loved spending time with his family and attending his granddaughter and great-granddaughters’ basketball games. He was an avid golfer. Ted enjoyed swimming, boating and vacationing at their cabin in Tennessee.
Ted is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his daughters Sylvia Ray, Jane (Brent) Lord, Karen (Jim) Boyd, Jill (Frank) Robinson; grandchildren Aaron Ray, Crystal Trueblood, Marcus Hayworth, Misty Jones, Lindsey Lawson and Eric Lord; great-grandchildren Tristan Trueblood, Hunter Hayworth, Bailey Parham, Olivia Parham, Finley Jones, Garret Ray, Eliza Jane Lawson, Amelia Lawson, Levi Lawson, Scarlett Lord, Lyla Lord, and Jameson Trueblood; three brothers, Robert, Jerry and Terry Skillman.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his two sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 21th, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, from 10am-12pm. His funeral will begin at 12pm. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
