Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton and Low Country Memorial GardensTheodore “Ted” Schroeder, 70, of Bluffton, SC passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Hilton Head Hospital in Hilton Head Island, SC.
Ted was born May 2, 1955 in Findlay, OH to the late Gerald Schroeder and Pauline Niese Smith. Ted grew up outside of Leipsic, OH and graduated from Miller City High School in 1973. A few years later, he moved to the Hilton Head Island area. He successfully owned and operated Schroeder Termite Inspection Services for thirty years before retiring. Ted was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying kayaking the coastal waterways, hiking, and biking. He loved spending time with family, especially during gatherings at Ohio’s Mohican State Park, and he never forgot to send a birthday card to relatives, including even great-nieces and great-nephews. He also enjoyed the friendships and adventures he found through his local Meetup groups. A Red Cross volunteer and former Scout leader, Ted gave generously of his time to his community. Each holiday season, he baked and delivered trays of Christmas cookies to his clients. He cared deeply about the shared spaces around him and would often pick up litter on his walks, keeping the area pleasant for both neighbors and wildlife.
Ted is survived by his son, Aaron Schroeder (Sarah Hayden) of Phoenix, AZ; his loving partner, Julia Powell of Bluffton; brothers, Nick Schroeder (Colleen) of Bowling Green, OH and Charlie Schroeder (Debbie) of Lincoln, NE; sisters, Sue Pester (Ken) of Ottawa, OH, Mary Turner of Westerville, OH, and Jeanne Crumrine (Dale) of Ottawa, OH. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and friend, Dave Schmucker, and former wife, Barbara Schmucker Schroeder, both of Hilton Head Island.
Celebrations of Life will be held at the Sippin Cow Cafe & Grill in Bluffton, South Carolina, on November 16th from 3–6 PM, and at Pike Run Golf Club in Ottawa, Ohio, on November 22nd from 1–4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Red Cross or that you consider donating blood in Ted’s memory.
