Thera Mae Holloway Comer, 91, passed away from this life on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center—Gilmore in Amory. Born in Tremont on November 17, 1933, she was a daughter to John and Clara Carter Holloway. She graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School where she was an Indianette and later graduated from Itawamba Community College and on December 7, 1956, she married Frank Comer. She and Frank built a successful grocery business in Smithville, Comer’s Supermarket in 1968 and operated until Frank accepted a position with the MS State Department of Vocational Education in Jackson. After the sale of the store to Piggly Wiggly, Thera began working for Larson’s Big Star in Amory until her retirement. Her life was guided by God, and she was an active member of Smithville Methodist Church. Wonderful, loving, and caring, Thera enjoyed being with family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. She made many fond and lasting memories which will be cherished from beach trips to Florida, NASCAR races, traveling to the mountains, and Virginia Beach. She and Frank loved for the family to be together on holidays, especially Christmas.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Smithville Methodist Church with Bro. Jim McClurkin and Bro. Jamie Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatley Cemetery. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
She is survived by her sons, John Comer (Vickie), Hatley and Ronnie Comer (friend, Deb), Conway, AR; daughter, Ann Goodwin (Phil), Smithville; grandchildren, Rebekah Kimble (Scott), Mary Comer Walters, Leigh Anne MacKenzie (Josh), Jana Comer, John Ross Comer (Stella), Philip Goodwin (Mari Anna), and Mollie Burgess (Elliott); great grandchildren, Colton Sumner, Makalah Sumner, AnnaLynn Walters, Aubrey MacKenzie, Annsleigh Mackenzie, John Comer, Luke Comer, George Comer, and Mari Adalyn Goodwin; sister-in-law, Pat Holloway; and a host of niece and nephews; special friends, Sharon Pickle, caretaker; her Arkansas friends; and the doctors, nurses, and staff of NMMC—Gilmore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Comer; brother, Harold Holloway; sister, Helen Moore; brother-in-law, L.C. Moore; and daughter-in-law, Elouise Comer.
Pallbearers will be John Ross Comer, Philip Goodwin, Josh MacKenzie, Colton Sumner, Patrick Holloway, Hal Holloway, Jeff Moore, and Joe Moore.
Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Smithville Methodist Church or to Pine Vale Children’s Home, Corinth, MS.
