Theresa was born on August 25, 1931, at The Hotel Dieu in New Orleans where her father was a streetcar conductor. When she was a teenager, her family moved to the Nina area, and, after graduating high school, she married Steven Guidry. Theresa was a talented artist, painting scores of oil paintings that now hang in her family's homes, crafting projects that won many local contests, and sewing beautiful clothes for her children and grandchildren. Her hand-smocked dresses and crocheted infant blankets have become cherished creations that will continue to be passed down from one generation to the next. Between her frequent travels with her husband and friends, Theresa gave over fifty years of her time and services to area organizations, volunteering at Gary Memorial Hospital in Breaux Bridge and participating in St. Martin Parish's Home Demonstration Club. She will be deeply missed.
Theresa is survived by her children and their families: her daughters, Janice (Charles) Broussard of Jeanerette and Deborah Broussard of Breaux Bridge; her sons, Michael (Deany) Guidry of Lafayette and Neil (Athena) Guidry of Breaux Bridge; her grandchildren, Ron (Ressie) Broussard of New Iberia, Kay (Chad) Helms of Duson, Manda (Jeremy) Choate of Breaux Bridge, Ryan (Nancy) Guidry of Portland, Oregon, Krystal (John) Self of Broussard, Karly Guidry of Carencro, and Kelli (Derek) Lalonde of Cecilia; her great-grandchildren, Beau (Dacia) Broussard of Broussard, Roni Rose Broussard of New Iberia, Reid Helms of Austin, Texas, Matthew and Nicholas Choate, both of Breaux Bridge, Atticus Guidry of Portland, Oregon, Aubrey and Rhett Self, both of Broussard, Carson Calais and Logan and Lyla Lalonde, all of Cecilia; and her great-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Amelie Broussard of Broussard. Theresa is also survived by her brother- and sister-in-law Pat and Anna Lee Miller, her godson Gill (Teddy) Frederick, her goddaughter Toni (Charles) Papadakes, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Steven Guidry; her parents, Osmer and Alisia Baudin; her brother, Edward Baudin, and his wife Leona; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Sidney and Sybil Guidry and Norma and Lee Frederick.
The family would like to extend special thanks to her at-home caregivers, Athena Melancon and Kerri Zeringue and to Emily Oliver, Steve Landry, and Carol Jackson from Hospice of Acadiana. Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
