It is with deep sadness that the family of Theresa Cheng Liu announces her passing on January 22, 2025, at the age of 88. She was the beloved widow of You Sheih Liu.
Theresa was born on March 15, 1936, in Shanghai, China, to Joseph and Mary Zen. In search of new opportunities, she left her home country and journeyed across the world to begin a new chapter in the United States. She pursued higher education, first in Colorado, and later at New York University in New York City. She and her family settled on Long Island, New York, where they lived for over 45 years.
Theresa was a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured spending time with her daughters, Nora Liu Carroll and Lena Liu, as well as her five grandchildren-Christopher, Jacob, Sidney, Olivia, and Alexis. She also shared a strong bond with her sisters, Agatha and Catherine, and her brother, Francis.
In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her brother, John, and her husband, You Sheih Liu. Though she will be deeply missed by all who knew her, Theresa's memory will live on through her loving family and the many lives she touched.
A funeral mass service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church 110 Bryant Ave. Roslyn, New York, on February 8, 2025, at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to Nest Academy RVA, a nonprofit program supporting young adults with disabilities: www.nestacademyrva.org.
