Mrs. Theresa Anne Howard Perry, age 77, of
Rome, Georgia, passed away on August 11, 2025.
Theresa's passion was to honor God by loving and supporting her husband, Carl, and nurturing her three sons and their families. After college, she started teaching high school students in Houma, Louisiana. She met Carl at First Baptist Church in Houma, and they married in 1969. She enjoyed learning and earned a Masters of Education at Nicholls State University in May 1973. She had a love for literature and writing, and had an amazing gift of teaching these subjects to her students. She taught school in Houma for over 20 years prior to her family moving to
Rome, Georgia, in 1988. While in Georgia, she began her role as a guidance counselor at Coosa High School and, subsequently, Pepperell High School. She cared deeply for her students and their future success. She was a faithful member of the Optimist Club, which focused on maximizing the ability of local students.
She worked hard to serve her family and friends. She opened her home frequently and loved cooking and baking. She was famous for her Cajun cuisine and unbelievable pecan pies. She was a Sunday School teacher, small group leader, and served within the hospitality ministry here at Fellowship Church. She loved music-she played both the piano and organ at her church in Houma and at Fellowship Church. She was a member of her church choir for most of her adult life. She was a source of support and encouragement to her three sons and her ten grandchildren.
Theresa made her decision public to follow Christ on March 14, 1957. She repented of her sins in the living room of her family's home and was baptized by Stafford Hebert at First Baptist Church in Houma. In her own words, in regards to her salvation, "There was really no fanfare. My salvation was a natural step in my life based on my upbringing and the example of my mom. It was a simple acceptance of Jesus's love for me, even though I did not understand completely; I knew I had sinned and that Jesus would and did forgive me." Her favorite bible verses were Isaiah 40:31, 1 Corinthians 10:13, and Romans 8:1-11.
Survivors include her sons, Kendall Perry, Lee Perry M.D. (Leanne) and Stephen Perry (Erin); grandchildren, Carter Anne, Ryan, Andrew, Vivian, Sam, Ben, Luke, Nicholas, Paxton, and Lydia; sister, Ellen Guidry (Gary Guidry, M.D.); brother-in-law, Mike Perry (Janet).
