Theresa H. Violette

Theresa H. Violette, fondly known as Terry, of Colchester, passed away on March 27, 2026, peacefully at home with her loving family attentively by her side. She was 81 years old. Terry was born on December 27, 1944, in Stafford Springs, CT to the late Frank and Adele (Kuliesh) Bernat. Terry worked for Aetna Insurance after high school for four years before she met and married the love of her life, Jean-Paul Violette, on May 27, 1967. As a devoted and loving wife and mother, Terry chose to be a homemaker while she raised her children. In 1986, she began a career with the CT Department of Transportation and retired as the Administrative Assistant of Traffic Engineering in 2007 after 21 years of service. Terry was a woman of strong faith. She was a communicant of St. Andrew Church in Colchester. In her free time, she used her talent for knitting to create beautiful baby blankets, sweaters, and hats which were donated to benefit unwed mothers through the Bright Light of Grater Meriden. Terry also volunteered at the Harrington Court Convalescent and Rehab Center in Colchester. As an avid reader, she was often found relaxing with a good book. Most importantly, Terry will be remembered with everlasting love for the devotion to her family as a woman who cherished and adored them all. She is survived by her husband, Jean-Paul of 58 years; her children and their spouses, Paul (Kristina) Violette of Colchester, Christine (Richard) Kilby of Bristol; grandchildren, Brendan Paul Violette of Colchester, Laurelanne Kilby of Bristol, Courtney Violette, Victoria Violette, both of Colchester; sister, Rosalie Martin of Berlin, CT; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Terry was predeceased in death by her brothers, Edward and Ronald Bernat. Services will be held from the Aurora McCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Rd. Colchester on Friday, April 10th beginning with a calling hour from 9:30 – 10:30am. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Ave. Colchester. Burial will follow in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown.
