Thomas Bailey Anderson Jr., 95, retired machinist for Union Carbide, and resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Randy Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Mount Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Sunday from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be made to Pleasant Mount Cemetery 1620 Fountain Heights Road, Columbia TN 38401. Online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Born July 20, 1930 in Spring Hill, TN, he was the son of the late Thomas Bailey Anderson Sr. and the late Mattie Parks Hayes Anderson. Mr. Anderson proudly served his Country in the United States Army. After his military service, he worked for Union Carbide for over 30 years. On March 31, 1957 he married the love of his life, Peggy Joyce Harris, who preceded him in death on June 15, 2013 after 56 wonderful years together. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Mount Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Anderson lived a life of service to both his community and his country, but nothing compared to the love and devotion he gave to his family whom he cherished.
He is survived by his daughter, Regina (Barry) Potts of Fort Mill, SC; son, Tommy (Jennifer) Anderson of Columbia, TN; grandchildren, Hannah (Justin) Turney, Harrison (Courtney) Potts, Liz (Scott) Weygand, Luke (Logan) Anderson, and Morgan Anderson (Paul Herbig); and great grandchildren, Baylor Turney, Leighton Turney, Maralyn Weygand, Emalyn Weygand, Laurence Weygand, Manning Potts, Archer Potts, and Baby Anderson (Luke & Logan Anderson).
Active pallbearers will be Luke Anderson, Justin Turney, Harrison Potts, Paul Herbig, Randall Anderson, and Ray Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will include his fellow retired employees of Union Carbide and the men of Pleasant Mount Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
