Thomas S. Athanas, Jr., 63, of Hollywood, South Carolina and former longtime local resident, passed away on March 15, 2025, at Roper of St. Frances Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
Born on July 25, 1961, in Rhinebeck, he was the son of the late Thomas S. Athanas Sr., and Patricia Taylor Athanas. Tom's mother survives at home.
Tom loved watching NASCAR and old Western movies and was a fan of country music.
He was a loving, happy man who lived life to the fullest, and could always make you laugh, and put a smile on anyone's face even on their darkest days. Affectionally known as "Pork" he embraced using his nickname, as well as providing nicknames to those who he was close with.
He was a self-employed Stone Mason, working for various contractors over the years.
In addition to his mother, Tom is survived by his children; Sarah Athanas (fiancé - James 'Mel' Haddad), of Hyde Park, Lindsay Athanas of Red Hook, and Zachary Remsburger (Kristina), of Hyde Park; brothers, Theodore (Theresa) and Todd (Karen) Athanas, both of Hyde Park, and nephews; David and Theodore Athanas.
Tom is also survived by his former wife, Denise M. Athanas; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and longtime companion; Kim Coluccio-Teed, of South Carolina.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be from 4 to 7 PM, Monday March 31st, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Tom's ashes will be buried privately in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
