Thomas Balos, age 61, of Erie, passed away on Saturday Nov. 1, 2025 at home. He was born on October 7, 1964 in Dunkirk, NY, the son of the late William Balos and Jackie Lyons Bean.
He graduated from McDowell High School and received a criminal justice degree from Edinboro University. He served in the US Army as a military transport operator during Desert Storm. He worked as a prison guard at the Albion State Correctional Facility, achieving the rank of Captain.
Thomas loved being outside in the sun, a Balos family trait. He cheered for the Cleveland Browns religiously and was a member of the VFW. The last 10 years of his life were centered around spending time with his fiancé Peggy Comstock and loved watching his grandchildren grow and develop.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his fiancé Peggy Comstock.
He is survived by his daughters: Amanda (Dustin) Hinkson of Erie and Emily (Pete) Minnis of FL; his grandchildren: Landon and Hudson Hinkson, Belle Minnis and Zachary, Connor, Bradley, Audrina, Anthony and Sophia Greco and their parents Jeff (Amanda), David (Jessica), and Bryan (Jen) Greco. He is further survived by his sisters: Ann Marie (Todd) Ernst, Kathryn (Robert) Nusbaum, Debra (Stacey) Balos, and Lynette (Robert) Will and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th St. on Friday November 7 from 10am until the time of the memorial service at 12pm, with military honors. Private inurnment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
