In Loving Memory of Thomas Scott Blackard November 10, 1966 – May 8, 2025
Thomas "Scott" Blackard was born in
San Antonio, Texas, and raised in Burnet, where he was known early on for his determination, compassion, and steady presence. From a young age, he was drawn to serve-motivated by a deep sense of duty and a desire to protect others. After graduating from Burnet High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, embracing both the honor and sacrifice that came with wearing the uniform.
Scott began his Army career as an infantryman and went on to serve for over 20 years. Throughout his military career and honorable service, he deployed to multiple conflict zones, including the invasion of Panama and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He faced grueling conditions with resolve and demonstrated unwavering loyalty to his fellow soldiers and to the ideals he swore to uphold.
As warfare evolved, so did Scott's role in his military service. He entered the world of Cyber Warfare Operations-becoming a digital warrior who helped neutralize numerous cyber threats, from rogue nation-state attacks to dark web terror cells. He became a trusted expert in cyber operations, protecting the nation from catastrophic breaches and advocating for ethical conduct in the digital domain.
Following his military service, Scott continued his mission in the private sector. At the time of his passing, he served as Principal Cyber Assessment and Threat Research Engineer at Hypori Virtual Mobility, where he conducted threat research and cyber assessments that safeguarded critical infrastructure. On any given day, he could be found deep in cyber related work or building a custom tactical rifle for his personal collection with the same precision and passion that defined his professional life.
Though his stature and presence could be intimidating to those who didn't know him, Scott was truly a gentle giant; patient, kind, and deeply loyal. He had a soft spot for his dogs, who were never far from his side and brought him quiet joy and companionship.
As an avid outdoorsman, Scott found peace and clarity in nature. Whether hunting and fishing with friends, or venturing into the outdoors alone, he cherished the solitude and adventure the natural world offered.
