Thomas G. Brown of
Virginia Beach, VA went home to be with the Lord on July 1, 2024.
Tom was born in Troy, New York on March 25, 1944 and is predeceased by his mother and father, Annette and Don Brown, his brother, Donald Jr., and his sister Beverly all of Troy, New York.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Mary Lou of 60 years, daughter, Natalie Frye and son-in-law, David of Virginia Beach; son, Thomas Brown, and daughter-in law, Mary Beth of Bloomington, IL and youngest son, Matt Brown and daughter in-law, Mary S. of Fredericksburg Va ; grandchildren, Timmy, Lydia, Thomas and Madeline of Virginia.
He also leaves his sisters and brothers in-law, Eileen Farber and Diane Feeley; Terry, Danny and Paul Feeley; his nephews and nieces, Billy and Scott Farber, Dawn and Frank Chiulli, Walter and Anita Seigel; Lisa and Mike Edwards; his great nieces and nephews, Robert and Ryan. Nicole and Sarah Chiulli, Walter Jr, Emily, Abigail Seigel and Sydney and Riley Edwards.
Tom honorably served our country in the US Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Crisis, and also served in the prestigious Ceremonial Guard in SE Washington DC at Marine Barracks 8th and I. His duties there included Sunset Parades at Iwo Jima Statue, Evening Parades at Marine Barracks, White House Arrivals and Camp David. He was a proud member of the VFW and American Legion Post 110.
While stationed in DC, he met and married Mary Lou. They moved to Virginia and raised their family in Virginia Beach. Tom became involved in all of his children's and grandchildren's sports activities through the years. He enjoyed being their basketball and baseball coach. He also loved being a Virginia Beach basketball referee for high school and recreational sports for many years.
When Tom began his civilian career in the Food Service Distribution sector, he worked as salesman for Doughties BBQ and Sysco Food services as vice-president of sales.
Tom graduated from Providence Bible College in 1996 with an associate degree in Biblical Studies and became an ordained Minister of Redemption Ministries and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served his faith community for over 25 years, doing weekly Church Services, and Bible studies in the Virginia Beach and Norfolk Jails, and also Sentara Nursing Homes in Virginia Beach.
In 2012, he volunteered at Hickory Ridge Community Church and began teaching a weekly Celebrate Recovery Program at Indian River and Saint Brides Correctional Center in Chesapeake VA. This Christ-centered recovery program helped many prison inmates overcome their hurts, bad habits and addictions by stepping out of denial with God's Grace.
He continued his prison ministry until Covid year 2020. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, pop-pop and favorite uncle and most importantly a minister of the Lord. He will be so deeply missed.
A service will take place at 12pm on July 13, 2024 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel (3445 Princess Anne Road,
Virginia Beach, VA 23456). Visitation will begin one hour prior at 11am. The service will conclude with an inurnment in Colonial Grove Memorial Park immediately following the memorial service.
