Thomas Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by M. John Scanlan Funeral Home - Pompton Plains on Dec. 15, 2025.
Thomas J. Brown, of Wayne, NJ, passed away after a courageous two-year battle with cancer on December 13, 2025. He was born in Passaic, NJ on January 6, 1963 and raised in Clifton, NJ. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Joseph and Eleanor Brown.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Michele Balkunas, and his adored stepson, Matthew, who were the center of his world; and his cherished pet and constant companion, Mr. Bear who was always by his side.

He is also survived by his brothers: Richard Brown and his wife Jan, of Arizona, along with their sons Richard, Robert, Jason, and William; Michael Brown, of Arizona; and Joe Brown, of Clifton, NJ. Tom was blessed with many cherished great-nieces and nephews, as well as fabulous friends and devoted in-laws who will miss him deeply.

Tom's love for music was immense. A devoted fan of the Grateful Dead, rock and roll, and guitars, he found great joy in music and was a founding member of the band Midnight Rain, a passion that brought him lifelong friendships and countless memories.

Tom had an illustrious career with ADP, where he built not only professional success but also many lasting friendships. He loved to travel and experienced the world with enthusiasm and curiosity. His final journey was shared with the love of his life Michele, a reflection of the deep bond they shared.

Tom will be remembered for his warmth, loyalty, love of music, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

Visiting hours will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 pm Saturday, January 10 at Scanlan's. A memorial service will conclude the visitation and will begin at 3:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
