Thomas Gerald "Tom" Brune passed to Eternal Life on September 21, 2025 after a period of declining health.
The son of the late William and Anna Fritz Brune, he was born in 1937 and raised on the east side of Detroit, Michigan. The Brothers of Holy Cross (Notre Dame, Indiana) were a strong influence during Tom's high school and college years. A proud graduate of St. Edward's University in Austin, TX, he was inducted into the University's "Golden Guard" at the 50th anniversary of his graduation.
Following the sale of the successful lawn care business he built in the Detroit area, Tom, his wife Linda, and his children moved to Oconee County, SC in 1984. Not content to be retired, Tom obtained his real estate license with a special interest in property development and management. First a partner and later the sole owner of Bountyland Properties, Tom had meticulous eye for attention to detail and the appearance of his business. Taking pride in his community, Tom could often be seen on his golf cart collecting trash from along the roadside of his business locations.
Conscious of his many blessings, Tom happily and proudly served on many church and civic boards, including committees at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Clemson and later at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca, as well as the board of directors for the Collins Children's Home, the Oconee Memorial Foundation Board, and also was an active member in many professional organizations.
Tom loved meatloaf, country music, history, Volkswagens, Notre Dame, and rides in the country. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving are his wife and constant caregiver, Linda Boos Brune, whom he married in 1969, daughter Maribeth Kowalski (Paul), and son Doug Brune (Jenny). Tom was proudly called "Poppa" and "Pop" by grandchildren Ryan Kowalski, Anne Kowalski, Eva Brune, and Emily Brune. He is also survived by his sisters, JoAnne Spring and Midge Culos (John), nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his sister, Sr. Veronica Brune, CSJ, and his brother-in-law, John Spring.
A Funeral Mass will be held on October 11th, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church with the family receiving friends 10:00 am till 11:00 am prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tom's memory may be made to Prisma Health Hospice Of The Foothills, Attn: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672 or St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church Youth Group, 170 Bountyland Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
