Scott James Brune, 61, of Taos, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Capital Region Medical Center, surrounded by his beloved family.
He was born on November 30, 1964, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of Emil (Butch) Joseph Brune and Betty Jane (Wilson) Brune. Scott was a graduate of Fatima High School in Westphalia, Missouri.
Scott was united in marriage to Karen Dell Prenger on September 8, 1989, in Jefferson City.
Scott proudly served his country in the United States Army for 21 years, where he built a decorated and honorable career. During his service, he earned several distinguished awards, with some being the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), and Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal. He also completed numerous advanced military education courses, including the Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Small Group Instructor Course, and multiple specialized leadership and instructor trainings. He was deeply committed to the soldiers he trained and served alongside.
Following his military service, Scott owned and operated Street Pro L.E.D.'s for more than ten years. He was known for his steady work ethic, dedication, and willingness to help anyone who needed him. In his free time, Scott enjoyed going to the Osage River, fishing, boating, and most of all riding his Harley with friends and family. Scott also enjoyed relaxing at home and watching MASH*, a show he never grew tired of.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Brune; his son, Shawn Brune; his daughter, Kristina (Krissy) Harvey (Josh Hodges); his grandchildren, Alex, Brilynne, Holly, Saige, and Raelynne; his brothers, Keith Brune and Mark Brune (Amy); and his sister, Kristy Luebbert.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Brune; his parents Emil (Butch) and Betty Brune; and his brother-in-law, Norbert Luebbert.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the donor's choice.
Friends and family will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.
A private family service will be held at a later time.
