Thomas Ralph Carman, son of Ralph and Karolla Carman, was born in Salt Lake City, UT on January 21, 1939. He rejoined his eternal companion and love of his life, Kathleen Richards Carman after an 8-year separation on May 25, 2024. He was 85 years old.
Tom was a man with many talents and accomplishments. He received his Eagle Scout Award in 1956 and graduated from Milwaukie High School (Oregon) in 1957. He attended Brigham Young University for a year prior to serving a 2-year mission in the Central Atlantic States (North Carolina/Virginia) for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Tom joined the U.S. Army and completed his basic training in Fort Carson, Colorado then graduated from Aircraft Maintenance school at Fort Eustis (Virginia) in 1962. Tom completed his military service after being stationed in Stuttgart, Germany from 1962-1963.
Tom's love of flying combined with the ever-growing need to 'fix things' pushed his career path towards the field of aeronautics. Over the years he enjoyed working for United Airlines and Rocky Mountain Helicopters, then finally accepted a career position with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Aviation Investigator until his retirement in 2005.
Some of Tom's greatest joys in this life were listening to Kathleen play the piano, 'tinkering' with all things mechanical, water skiing on a mirror-glass lake, a 'marvelous meal' and a really good hug.
Throughout his life, Tom served in various church callings including Stake High Counselor, First Counselor in his ward Bishopric, Sunday School President and completed a service mission at the Lindon Cannery during his retirement years. He had a kind heart and a gentle spirit, with a lifelong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. Whether plowing snow on his tractor or sharing quiet conversation, he spent much of his final years in the service of others.
Tom is survived by his sister, Diane Pace (George –Deceased), his brother, Dennis Carman and his children, Richard Carman (Vicki – Deceased), Lisa Brockbank (Bruce), Mark Carman (Myriam), Ryan Carman and Michael Carman, as well as 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Those waiting to greet Tom as he passed from this earth life were his beautiful wife, Kathleen (Richards) Carman, his parents, Ralph and Karolla Carman, his brother, Stephen Carman and sister, Barbara Carman.
