Thomas Frank Cavaleri

CAVALERI, Thomas (Tom) 75 of Tampa and son of James and Josephine Cavaleri, passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2025, from complications after recent spine surgery.

He was born December 31,1949 in Tampa. He graduated from H.B. Plant High School in 1967, where he excelled academically and in several sports. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 1972 with a degree in Mass Communications. He had a successful 39-year career with Hillsborough County, retiring as Division Director-Health and Social Services in 2011. He received awards and recognition throughout his Hillsborough County tenure, including a U.S. Congressional Record proclamation issued by Congresswoman Kathy Castor in 2011 honoring his contributions and devotion to helping the disadvantaged and underserved. He authored articles included in social services publications and designed and implemented innovative processes to improve the efficiency of Hillsborough County social services programs.

He had a passion for sports and was an avid Florida Gators fan. He was an excellent golfer and enjoyed playing golf for most of his life. He had a wicked sense of humor that included great comeback lines. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He enjoyed many lifelong friendships. Family and friends will greatly miss his presence, keen intellect, and sharp wit.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Yong; son, Jeff Bailey (Delaney); grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Jeffrey, Cailin and Kierin; sister, Charleen Corbett (Rick); nephews, Ryan Corbett (Arianne) and Justin Corbett (Tallia); great-nieces and nephew, Addie, Leila, Jimmy, and Maggie; and beloved dog, Gator.

A funeral service will be at Christ the King Catholic Church in the Our Lady Queen of Angels Chapel, 821 S. Dale Mabry Hwy. Tampa on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 10:00 am. A reception will immediately follow in the McLoughlin Center located at the church.
