Thomas Clayton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Eggers Funeral Home - Boiling Springs on Mar. 6, 2026.
Thomas Jones Clayton, affectionately known by many as "Papa Tom," passed away surrounded by the love of the family and community that meant so much to him. He was born on February 25, 1947, in the Holly Springs community, to the late Oliver Jones "Pete" Clayton and Catherine Clayton.

For 56 wonderful years, Tom shared life with his beloved wife, Wanda Clayton, building a family rooted in faith, love, and plenty of laughter. Together they raised two daughters, Shannon Holden (Mark) and Heather Seago (Jarrod), who carry forward his steady strength and kind heart.

Papa Tom's greatest joy was his growing family. He was a proud grandfather to Luke Holden (McKenzie), Lauren Neely (Blake), Lance Holden, Michael Howard, and Kara Howard, Haily Gravitt and was blessed with four great-grandchildren who brought endless smiles to his life. He was also faithfully accompanied by his loyal 11-year-old Cockerpoo, Gus, who rarely left his side.

Tom graduated from Clemson University in 1969 with a degree in Textile Chemistry and went on to work 30 years with Hoechst Celanese. Never one to sit still, he later owned and operated an accounting business for 22 years, serving many with the same honesty and dedication that defined his life.

A faithful member of Lake Bowen Baptist Church, Tom loved the Lord and his church family deeply. He served as a D-Group leader, supported the men's ministry, and was always ready to help with whatever was needed. His quiet faith, steady encouragement, and servant's heart made a lasting impact on many.

Tom was a proud American, a devoted Clemson Tigers fan, and a man who found joy in the simple things-especially baking fresh bread to share with the people he loved.

More than anything, Papa Tom will be remembered for his warm smile, steady faith, playful spirit, and the way he loved his family fiercely. His life was a blessing, his legacy is one of faith and kindness, and he will be deeply missed until the day we meet again.

He is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his sister Elaine Long (Jim), and many friends and church family who were blessed to know him.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Lake Bowen Baptist Building fund.
