Thomas Cockran Obituary

Thomas Richard Cockran, born on July 2, 1938, in Washington, DC, was a beacon of love and ambition, whose life journey ended peacefully in Cambridge, Maryland, on October 21, 2025, with his beloved wife, Carol, by his side. He leaves behind a legacy shaped by his unwavering dedication to family and his career.

A proud veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959, he rose to the rank of PFC (E-2), embodying the values of duty and honor that would mark his life. In the embrace of camaraderie forged during those formative years, Tom carried the spirit of teamwork.

For 30 years, Tom and Carol ran a thriving printing business in Laurel, MD, an achievement he regarded as one of his proudest accomplishments. The printing shop was not merely a job; it was a testament to their commitment, creativity, and shared vision. Together, they cultivated a warm space that served not just the needs of their clients but also nourished the bonds of their family ties.

Tom cherished the simple pleasures of life; he loved spending time with his family—each gathering a tapestry of laughter and love. His hobbies revealed a spirit alive with adventure. Crabbing, fishing, playing golf, shooting pool, and youthful games of softball were moments that sparkled in his memory, each flicker of time spent amongst friends and family.

Tom was also a member of his community, belonging to the local Moose Lodge, Elks, and American Legion, where he found connection and camaraderie with like-minded souls. His involvement enriched his life and offered him a sense of belonging that resonated deeply with his character.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Carol Lee Cockran, sons Guy Cockran ( Haydee Irizarry), Wes Cockran ( Lisa), and Mark Cockran. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Sarah, Nick, and Brandon Cockran, and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Jaxson Hardin. Tom was also a beloved brother.

Tom is reunited in eternal peace with his son Glenn Alan Cockran; his parents, Joseph R. Cockran and Evelyn Zimmerman Cockran. He was the 2nd son of 11 children.

As we honor Tommy, the warmth of his spirit, the joy he found in family, and the imprint he has left on all our lives. His story remains a reminder to cherish moments spent together.

He will be laid to rest at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, Maryland with family only attending.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cambridge Elks Lodge #1272, 5464 Elks Lodge Road, Cambridge, MD 21613, Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 5:00 pm.
