Thomas Lee Corey, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at the age of 71 in Portage, Indiana. Born on February 12, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Friederike (Nolte) Corey and Ernest Corey, Thomas grew up surrounded by a loving family that would continue to play a central role throughout his life.
Thomas's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family and an impressive work ethic. As a skilled truck driver, he was known for his reliability and commitment to his profession. His colleagues respected him for his integrity and the camaraderie he brought to every interaction. Beyond his work, Thomas was deeply involved in various associations, where he made lasting contributions and formed enduring friendships.
At home, Thomas was the epitome of love and selflessness. He shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Barbara Corey, and together they raised three wonderful children: Tracey (Erik) Carpenter, Brian Corey, Kristy Corey, and Thomas (Brittni) Lee Corey II. His siblings, Harry (Penny) Corey, Dan (Jane) Corey, Ernest Corey, and the late Ken Corey, remember him as a brother who was always there for them, ready to lend a hand or a listening ear.
Thomas's legacy is also celebrated by his adoring grandchildren-Brooke, Emma, River, Kollin, Wyatt, Gracie, Katelyn, Lily, Victoria, Bailey, and Riley, who brought immense joy to his later years, as well as his two great-grandchildren. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and he was a constant presence in their lives, celebrating each milestone and offering unconditional love and support.
An unstoppable force with a heart of gold, Thomas was a jack of all trades. He could rebuild engines with the same ease and passion with which he played on the floor with his children and grandchildren. His self-sacrificial nature was evident in the way he always put others before himself, never hesitating to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
Thomas's interests were as varied as his skills. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as spending quality time with his family and sharing in their achievements. His love was a constant, guiding light, and his memory will be cherished by the many lives he touched.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, who will remember their uncle as a loving and generous figure in their lives. Thomas's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love he gave so freely.
Thomas Lee Corey was a man of great character, whose life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and kindness. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11-12, Friday, December 5, 2025 at Graceland Cemetery Chapel, 1505 E. Morthland Dr., Valparaiso, (219) 462-3511. Entombment will follow.
