Thomas DeMott Obituary
Thomas F. Demott, Jr., 86, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Stamford on July 24, 1938 to the late Thomas F. DeMott, Sr. and Antoinette Bivona DeMott.
He will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched as the owner of DeMott Automotive. For over 7 decades he was the heart of the business he proudly started with his father and continued side by side with his brother, Sal. His generous soul and giving nature was felt through his service as a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the past president, roast master and permanent fixture at the Christmas Tree lot of the North Stamford Exchange Club.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Judith Remson DeMott, his loving children, Christopher DeMott and Sandra, Teresa "Terri" DeMott-Pace and husband Robbie, his grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob and Ciara, his brothers, Daniel DeMott, Salvatore DeMott and wife Linda, his sister Marianne Fitzgerald and husband Bill, as well as his aunt, Anna Simonetti and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tommy deeply cared for his family and friends and cherished all of the adventures he had with everyone. Great memories live on with Mike and Camille Tomasello, the Briar Brae Gang, and his "extra" BBG children that he loved and considered his own. Tommy had the gift of making everyone feel like family. No matter where he went, or how far he was from home, he always ran into people he knew or someone he was related to.
For 60 years he traveled the world with his inseparable companion Judy, enjoying a long and happy life filled with love and laughter. The memory of his sparkling blue eyes, enormous heart and great sense of humor will be embedded in our hearts and treasured forever.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home and Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 27, 2024 at Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.

To the entire DeMott family, it is with deep sadness that I am reading of Tom's passing. Having lived next to the DeMott family on Lafayette Street,
I was introduced to this wonderful family. Their automotive skills were always fair and honest. Tom always had time to speak to me upon my
return visits to the shop. He lived his life and will be missed. May he now rest in the arms of our Lord. His memories will remain with us forever.

To the Demott Family. I Met Tommy through Sal and used to have breakfast with them on Bedford St Diner. I loved his friendship, fun words, happy times as early in the am as it was! A delightful insight into what a family owned mechanical businessman, caring individual, family man and kind , humorous soul he was! I met him at about 17 years old working at Stamford Volvo ! He was such a nice guy ! I later learned about his dad and younger brother . Such a nice family that were the icons of the city of Stamford . I became a Knights of Columbus member in 1978 ! He was also a very integral part of the club and Catholic faith ! He was so kind years later on a personal car I was having issues with ! Always the professional leader of the shop took care of me . My deepest respect and condolences to the family of such a fine man with A moral compass equal to my mom and dad ! I feel thankful that I got to know and work with him over my career in the automotive business ! May the beautiful life he shared with all of us be your comfort in the difficult days ahead !
