Thomas Deveau Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 14, 2023.
Thomas Alphonse Deveau
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tom on October 17th, 2022 after a courageous journey with esophageal cancer. Born on August 4th, 1953 to the late Homer and Dorothy Deveau, Tom was a loving husband to Pam (Boudreau) for 35 years, proud father to Morgan (Mary Hitchcock), grampie to Nora, and loving owner of his dog Nautica.
Tom was a retired lobster fisherman, having done this all his adult life. He loved to hunt small game and go fishing with his dog, but his real passion was deer hunting. Tom took great pride in his property, always making sure everything on the lake was to perfection. Tom loved a good time and always enjoyed spending time with friends.
Tom is survived by brother Gilbert (Muriel) Deveau, sister Edna Sweeney, godson Scott Deveau (Cathy), goddaughters Tina Sweeney-Doucette and Camille Saulnier, mother- and father-in-law Marilyn and Art Saunders, brothers-in-law Jimmy (Kathy) Boudreau, Tyler Boudreau, Steve (Carol) Saunders, sisters-in-law Gayle (Kendrick) Hamilton, Shawna (Dan) Boudreau, Leanne (Geoff) Best, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by niece Marlene Sweeney, brother-in-law John Sweeney, sister-in-law Tina Hill, and brother-in-law Shane Boudreau.
Tom took peace in the many acts of kindness shown to him during his illness. Thank you to Dr. Blair MacDonald and Shelly at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Thank you to the Dickson Centre radiation and oncology departments and to nurse Nora Smith for her dedication to Tom until the end. Thank you to Dr. French and fellow thoracic surgeons, to the 6A thoracic floor of Victoria General Hospital for all the care shown to Tom, you were like his family and treated him as such. Thank you to Lee and Carol of Halifax Haven Guest Home for your offering of more than a place to stay and the sincere compassion you have shown during such difficult times.
Thank you to the Yarmouth oncology department, VON, Red Cross, neighbours, friends, and communities of Darlings Lake and Port Maitland for all you have done from near and far. You have all made this journey so much easier with each act of kindness.
A celebration of life will be held July 29, 2023 at 4 P.m. from the Port Maitland Fire Hall.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund.
Life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced.
